Beachman's Series A wins backing from NÜTRL Vodka Soda founders
What's the deal? Toronto's BeachmanDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Motor Company has secured a strategic investment from Paul and Melissa Meehan through their Meehan Family Investments Inc., as part of a Series A round. The Meehans are the entrepreneurs who built NÜTRL Vodka Soda into Canada's top-selling brand before selling it to Labatt Breweries of Canada (Anheuser-Busch InBev) in 2020.
Why now? The round has closed its first tranche, backed by a handful of founders behind other well-known Canadian consumer brands. Beachman says the funds will strengthen its North American operations and fund an expansion into Europe.
Why these investors? Paul Meehan has known co-founders Ben Taylor and Steve Payne for years. He once employed Taylor and heard the Beachman pitch in his office six years before the company sold its first bike; he worked with Payne on music projects earlier.
"I've been a fan of what Steve and Ben are building for a long time," Meehan said.
What's the endgame? Beachman's lineup centres on the '64, a mid-century-styled electric motorcycle drawing on 1960s California design. It sells in Canada and the US through a growing dealer network, and recently became Canada's first federally licensed electric motorcycle manufacturer in over 80 years. A second model, the Aviator, is in development on a custom platform, pitched as faster and longer-range.
The expansion: The European push targets the world's largest market for premium motorcycles. Beachman is chasing the trajectory the Meehans built with NÜTRL — a homegrown Canadian brand mentioned alongside names like Triumph, Vespa, and Royal Enfield.
What could go wrong? Europe's premium motorcycle market is crowded with entrenched legacy names, and an EV-first Canadian brand will have to work to earn shelf space against them.
The signal: Consumer-brand operators are increasingly backing hardware startups, betting that the playbook for scaling a category challenger translates from ready-to-drink beverages to electric motorcycles.
