Ailancy buys Valmen to form 500-strong French finance consultancy

What's the deal? French consultancy AilancyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Groupe Valmen, creating a firm of more than 500 consultants focused on strategy and transformation for the banking, financial, and insurance sectors. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: Ailancy has an established track record advising financial institutions, while Valmen brings 20 years of experience in insurance consulting. The two aim to combine those strengths to help clients through structural transformations.

Why now? The financial and insurance sector is under pressure from regulatory change, digitalisation, and the rise of data and artificial intelligence. Institutions are being forced to rethink their business models, boosting demand for specialist advice.

What's the endgame? Ailancy is pursuing a consolidator strategy, backed since 2021 by Isatis CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → through a majority LBO. It wants to build a firm large enough to secure the "souveraineté," or independence, of French banking and insurance players against international rivals.

"Grâce à ce rapprochement, nous confortons notre place de premier cabinet de conseil dédié à l'industrie financière et assurantielle," said Marie-Thérèse Aycard, president of Ailancy Group. The deal involves the firm's 21 partners and all of its staff.

Jean Davant, president of Groupe Valmen, framed the tie-up as a new chapter after 18 years focused on insurance, saying it strengthens the group's ability to guide clients through their "transformations les plus structurantes."

Isatis Capital, founded in 2013 and regulated by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers, specialises in growth capital and primary LBOs. It manages more than €400 million on behalf of institutional and private investors.

The signal: Consulting has been consolidating rapidly for the past two years. The Ailancy-Valmen merger shows how mid-sized French firms are combining scale and sector expertise to defend their home turf against larger international competitors.
