Assent buys Germany's IPOINT in its first-ever acquisition

What's the deal? Assent Inc., an Ottawa-based product compliance and supply chain sustainability firm, has acquired IPOINTDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a German software provider specialising in automotive compliance, lifecycle assessment, and product stewardship. It is Assent's first acquisition. Terms were not disclosed.

What's the endgame? Assent wants to move beyond supply chain compliance into full product lifecycle intelligence — tracking manufacturers' regulatory obligations and sustainability performance from design to end of life. Combining its supplier network with IPOINT's material intelligence and lifecycle assessment gives customers a single-platform view of their products.

Why now? Manufacturers and distributors face mounting pressure to prove compliance at the product level, not just the supplier level. Rules such as Battery Passports and the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation are raising that bar.

Reutlingen-based IPOINT has spent more than two decades serving demanding manufacturers, and its European base and automotive focus will strengthen Assent's push into US and European automotive markets.

"Until now, getting that complete picture required piecing together data from multiple systems," said Michael Southworth, chief executive officer of Assent. He added that applying AI across the combined data set gives customers "a faster, unified view on a single platform — from what's in their products to the impact they have on the world."

What changes for customers? Both companies say service and support will continue uninterrupted. As integration advances, Assent customers gain IPOINT's lifecycle assessment and product carbon footprint tools, while IPOINT customers get access to Assent's global compliance platform and supplier network.

Peter SchmidtDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, chief executive officer of IPOINT, said the combined data and AI capabilities can "deliver those answers to customers even faster."

The signal: The deal reflects how tightening global product regulation is pushing compliance software vendors to consolidate. As Digital Product Passports approach, providers are racing to build the unified data foundations that manufacturers cannot easily replicate in-house.
