Why now? Chief executive officer Alex Cojocaru said Licenseware reached product-market fit in 2025. The company will use the capital to accelerate international expansion — chiefly in the US, EU, and UK — and to grow its product and sales teams.

Who backed it and why: BCR Seed Starter, the first corporate venture capital fund run by a bank in Romania, cited the company's international validation. "Licenseware has enterprise clients on three continents, validation from Gartner two years in a row, and a product for large companies," said Adrian Roșoagă, chief investment officer at the fund.

Carmen Dibuș, chief executive officer of BCR Seed Starter, added that software asset management "is an area where large organisations lose money without seeing where," and Licenseware offers visibility and better IT cost governance.

What could go wrong? Licenseware competes on a global market against far larger players, and its expansion targets mature markets where established software asset management vendors are entrenched. Cojocaru said AI helps the startup "compete on equal terms with the biggest players."

The signal: This is BCR Seed Starter's third investment in just over two years since launch, after FieldOS and Profluo — evidence of a bank-backed fund steadily building a Romanian startup portfolio. Even so, the €800,000 round sits near the smaller end of the funding spectrum, landing in roughly the 28th percentile by amount.
