VAROPreem exits EV-charging platform Road at 13X EBITDA
What's the deal? VAROPreemDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to sell its 66.3% stake in Road B.V., an Amsterdam-based EV charging software company, to Benelux mobility and energy provider HamethaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → B.V. The transaction completed on July 3, 2026, marking VAROPreem's exit at a multiple of 13X planned 2027 EBITDA.
What each side does: Road, founded in 2017, runs a technology-agnostic EV charging management platform through products including E-Flux by Road and Road Private Label. It serves more than 200,000 customers with around 120 employees across Western Europe. Hametha provides integrated mobility and energy solutions across the Benelux.
The numbers: Under VAROPreem ownership since 2021, Road grew net revenues 17X. Charging points rose 1,350% over five years, driving 25 million customer transactions, with the platform holding 99.98% uptime across locations.
Why now? The sale caps a roughly five-year ownership period in which VAROPreem built Road from an emerging platform into a profitable, scalable business through investment in its charging back-end and standardised processes.
What's the endgame? For VAROPreem — a European energy company formed from the combination of VARO and Preem — the deal crystallises value from a growth asset outside its core fuels business. "The significant value uplift is a result of growth in the scale of our customer base and geographies in which we operate," said group chief executive officer Dev Sanyal.
What changes for customers? Road passes to an owner focused squarely on mobility and energy, potentially deepening its integration across charging and energy services. Sanyal said the company wished "the Road team continued success."
The signal: An energy major selling a scaled EV-charging software platform to a specialist mobility firm underscores how the charging market is consolidating around operators best placed to bundle energy and mobility — and how digital platforms have become tradeable assets in Europe's electrification build-out.
