What's the deal? National Bank of CanadaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to acquire Truvera Trust CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a British Columbia-based trust company, through its subsidiary Natcan Trust Company, which operates as National Bank Trust (NBT). The deal, announced 7 July 2026, aims to expand the bank's wealth management capabilities and strengthen its presence in Western Canada.

What each side brings: Truvera, headquartered in Vancouver with an office in Kelowna, offers estate and trust planning plus executor and trustee services for individuals, families, and business owners. For NBT, the acquisition adds specialised expertise and established client relationships in the region.

The terms: Financial details were not disclosed, but the bank said the transaction "will not have a material impact on the Bank's financial position." It remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in the coming months.

Why the West? By establishing a local presence in Western Canada, NBT plans to expand support for intergenerational wealth transfer and estate planning, deepen ties within the local business community, and build on collaboration across services such as National Bank Financial Wealth Management and Private Banking 1859.

What changes for clients? Integration will be carried out progressively to ensure continuity for clients and employees while drawing on NBT's broader infrastructure. Truvera CEO Don Woods said the deal will let his team build on its foundation "while benefiting from National Bank's scale, expertise, and resources."

The rationale: Marie-Soleil Lemieux, president and chief executive officer of National Bank Trust, called the deal "an important step in strengthening our presence in Western Canada and bringing trust and estate expertise closer to our clients." She also framed it as a cultural fit, citing Truvera's "deep expertise and a commitment to client service."

The signal: The acquisition reflects a push by Canada's major banks to consolidate specialised wealth services as an aging client base drives demand for estate planning and succession advice. For National Bank, buying a regional trust firm is a targeted way to plant a flag in a market where it has been under-represented.
