Monex Group buys 45% of Essex haulier A J Ostridge in first stage of full takeover

Try Dealroom → has acquired a 45% stake in A J Ostridge Transport, an Essex-based haulier, marking its first move into the East of England. The South Wales group is providing financial, commercial, and operational support while the family firm continues under its existing management.
Who is A J Ostridge? Founded more than 25 years ago and headquartered in Maldon, the company offers general haulage, container transport, and outdoor storage. It runs a fleet of about 15 vehicles and employs roughly 20 staff, all of whom will stay on after the deal.
What's the endgame? The investment is the first stage of a wider acquisition. Monex said the deal will expand its geographical coverage and support the growth of its UK transport and logistics operations.
Why now? The purchase continues an active run of dealmaking. It follows Monex's acquisition of Newport-based Freight Movement from administration in March 2026 and Lancashire-based Richardson Traction in December 2025, also out of administration.
The buyer: Monex operates across road transport, warehousing, and specialist logistics through businesses including Monex Logistics, Monex International, Monex Cranes, Monex Marine, Monex Distribution, Monex Academy, and Pike Logistics. Across its transport operations, it runs more than 150 vehicles and 350 trailers.
Matthew Elms, Monex commercial director, said A J Ostridge is "a well-respected, family-run operator with deep local roots, a loyal customer base and a strong reputation for quality service." He added: "This partnership is about building on what is already a successful business."
Alan Ostridge, the company's director, said joining Monex "allows us to grow while keeping the values that matter most," adding that the backing would let the firm "invest further in our fleet, our people and our services."
The signal: The deal fits a pattern of UK road-haulage consolidation, with Monex building a national network through targeted takeovers. Many regional hauliers face cost pressures and succession questions, and A J Ostridge is another family operator opting for a phased sale to a growing group rather than closure.
