BM H backs Frankfurt export-finance bank FIB with €5M
What's the deal? Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen (BM H) is providing €5 million in growth capital to FIB Frankfurt International Bank AG. The funding, structured as a silent partnership through the Hessen KapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → I fund, aims to strengthen the bank's equity base and fund its next phase of expansion.
What does FIB do? The Frankfurt-based bank specialises in international export financing, focusing on government-guaranteed export credits (Hermes- or ECA-covered buyer credits) for small and medium-sized transactions. It targets deals often only partly served by traditional banks, and also offers digital escrow accounts for international students and skilled workers.
What's the money for? The capital will primarily strengthen FIB's regulatory capital base. That gives it more room to expand structured export financing and enter new business areas, with additional digital financial services planned.
Why now? FIB reports strong early demand: more than 70,000 escrow accounts opened in its first 18 months, and financing requests totalling roughly €1.5 billion processed. Management views this as confirmation of its niche focus.
The state's angle: For BM H, the state investment company, the deal fits Hesse's economic policy and its push to strengthen Frankfurt as an international financial centre.
The signal: The modest size makes this an example of incremental capacity being added to a specialised lender rather than a market-moving deal. With export finance under pressure from tighter regulation, higher funding costs, and trade frictions, BM H is betting on a profitable niche in mid-market export transactions that larger banks tend to avoid.
