Citrin Cooperman acquires Boston's LitmanGerson Associates
What's the deal? Citrin CoopermanDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired substantially all the assets of LGA, LLP, a Boston-area accounting and business advisory firm, the company announced July 7. The deal adds roughly 150 professionals and deepens Citrin Cooperman's presence across New England.
What do they do? Citrin Cooperman is a US accounting and advisory provider serving private, middle-market businesses and high net-worth individuals, with more than 3,300 professionals. LGA serves mid-market businesses, entrepreneurs, and families, and is known for its advisory-led approach and work with lower middle-market and SMB clients.
How is it structured? Reflecting the alternative practice structure common to accounting firms, Citrin Cooperman Advisors LLC will acquire certain non-attest assets, while Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP takes on certain attest assets. Terms were not disclosed.
Why the fit? LGA managing partner John Geraci pointed to long-standing ties with Citrin Cooperman partners in the Boston market. "We can preserve what makes LGA special while giving our team broader opportunities, additional support, and access to continued investments in innovation and AI-enabled capabilities," he said.
What's the endgame? The deal continues an acquisition-led growth strategy that began after New Mountain CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → took a majority stake in Citrin Cooperman in 2021. The firm has since bought regional and niche practices — including Boston's Browne Consulting GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and, more recently, a Coral Gables firm to build out its Florida presence — while investing in AI-enabled audit technology.
Why now? The expansion comes as private equity ownership grows more common in large accounting firms. Blackstone's pending acquisition of Citrin Cooperman from New Mountain — a reported $2 billion deal — underscores investor expectations that bolt-on acquisitions like LGA will drive value.
The signal: The LGA deal matters less as a one-off and more as another step in a private-equity-fuelled roll-up reshaping the accounting sector. Citrin Cooperman is pairing geographic reach with technology to consolidate a fragmented market.
