Norway's Hive raises $15m to turn any industrial machine self-driving

What's the endgame? Founded in Norway in 2020 and now headquartered in London, Hive is building a foundational model and software layer that can automate any on-site machine. It sells autonomy-as-a-service, letting operators add sensors and software to a digger, for example, turning it into a self-driving vehicle.
For simple tasks the machines run autonomously; for complex ones, a remote teleoperator controls machines across multiple sites from home. Hive claims full use of its system can cut the productive machine-hour cost by 80%.
What's it for? The money will fund platform development, hiring AI and robotics talent, and scaling deployments with industrial partners. Hive is already live across several sites in Scandinavia and plans to expand into the UK and US.
In their words: “What we actually are doing is that we're delivering work hours,” says cofounder and chief executive officer Christoffer Jørgensvaag. “We're in the middle of a new industrial revolution.”
What could go wrong? Jørgensvaag says there is “not a lot of competition right now” and that most customers have never seen the technology working outside lab tests. That early-mover position is also unproven at scale — the 80% cost claim still needs to hold up across real commercial deployments.
The signal: Hive’s round is a small entry in a wave of capital flowing into AI infrastructure that promises cheaper, more efficient compute — from TensorWave’s $350m Series B to Cerebras’s reported $1.1bn raise. It is far smaller, but points the same direction: investors are backing efficiency plays, not just new applications.
