Ranger buys CIA and AKD, pushing its fire-safety roll-up to 25 businesses

What each brings: CIA, founded in 1982, offers fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV, extinguishers, and keyholding, serving customers across the south and nationally. AKD provides fire alarms, security, and access control, with a focus on recurring servicing and call-outs for commercial, hospitality, public sector, and residential clients.
CIA has itself been acquisitive, buying maintenance business PFS and Gloucester-based Pioneer Automated Controls. Its 80-plus staff will remain as it joins the Ranger Group.
What's the endgame? Ranger is building a "one-stop shop" for fire and security services across the UK and Ireland by rolling up "local hero" businesses. CIA strengthens its footprint in the South, alongside Fidelity Integrated Systems, Scion Communications, Partnership Fire and Security, and Universal Fire and Security.
AKD bridges the gap between Ranger's North West hub, Syncro, and its Scottish hub, Secureshield, in Motherwell.

Matthew Harrison, managing director of CIA, said joining "marks a significant moment for our team," pointing to cross-selling opportunities and expanded service delivery across the group.
The signal: Private-equity-backed consolidation of fragmented, service-heavy sectors continues apace. By stacking regional specialists with recurring maintenance revenue, Ranger is assembling national scale one local business at a time — a model that trades blockbuster deals for steady, incremental reach.
