Vytal raises millions to bring smart reusable cups to stadiums
What's the deal? Cologne-based reuse platform Vytal has secured millions in growth equity from Inven CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.
The money will fund the rollout of its smart reusable-cup infrastructure across stadiums, arenas, large venues, and campuses.
Vytal already operates in 20 countries, works with more than 7,000 business clients, and has replaced over 25 million single-use packages. Its return rate in open reuse systems tops 99%.
Why now? Stadiums and event operators are investing heavily in better fan experiences, digital infrastructure, cashless payments, and greener operations.
The fresh capital targets the growing demand from sport and entertainment across Europe and North America — one of Vytal's fastest-growing markets.
Using QR-code- and RFID-enabled cups, Vytal makes every food-and-beverage transaction trackable and appealing to sponsors. Its reference sites include the San Francisco Giants' MLB stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and Hamburg's OMR Festival.
"We are experiencing a historic turning point for the reuse industry," said Dr. Tim Breker, co-founder and co-chief executive officer. "With Vytal.ONE, smart reusable cups, and foodware, reuse becomes a revenue-generating digital infrastructure for modern sports venues."
What could go wrong? Venue reuse depends on high return rates and smooth operations; any friction at busy concessions could frustrate fans and operators alike.
Vytal is also expanding across two continents at once, which stretches operations and pits it against entrenched single-use suppliers.
The signal: By backing Vytal, growth investment fund Inven Capital is betting that reuse can graduate from an early-stage sustainability play into scalable digital infrastructure. With reference sites already spanning MLB stadiums and major festivals, the round positions the company to turn its 99% return rate into a commercial edge as venues chase both greener operations and new sponsorship income.
