MUFG backs Indonesia's Pertamina with $1.5B loan

What's the deal? MUFG BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s Jakarta branch has signed a $1.5 billion committed short-term loan facility with Indonesian state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina.

The financing includes a $1 billion accordion feature, letting Pertamina draw more if needed. MUFG is acting as mandated lead arranger, underwriter, and bookrunner.

Pertamina will use the funds for general corporate purposes.

Why now? The deal lands as Indonesian dollar financing picks up pace, with state firms tapping international lenders for capital.

MUFG said the transaction reflects confidence in Pertamina's credit profile and strengthens ties between the two. The Japanese bank has operated in Indonesia for over 50 years.

The signal: As a corporate lender deepening its half-century presence in Indonesia, MUFG is positioning itself as a go-to financier for the country's late-stage state giants, extending beyond this facility into transaction banking, foreign exchange, and liquidity services. For international banks, backing firms like Pertamina remains a prized gateway into Southeast Asia's largest economy.
