Kyoto iCAP backs Advanced Composites in Series B for metal-matrix materials

The lead investor backed the round through its KYOTO-iCAP No. 3 Fund. Founded in 2015, Advanced Composites develops and manufactures materials using its proprietary molten-metal forging method.
Why now? Demand is rising for materials that existing combinations cannot deliver, driven by sustainability goals and growing computing power.
The company fuses inorganic porous bodies with metal to achieve both strength and light weight, plus strong heat dissipation for computing components. It aims to grow its presence in the semiconductor supply chain.
The partnership traces back to IVS2025 LAUNCHPAD, a pitch contest that Advanced Composites won. There, it met Kyoto iCAP's Mr. Yagi, who served as a judge.
The fresh capital will deepen research and development in advanced fields and strengthen ties with academia, tapping the knowledge of Japan's national universities.
The signal: As a Kyoto University-linked investment fund, Kyoto iCAP is positioning early-stage deep-tech materials science within Japan's academic-to-commercial pipeline, backing an early-stage company whose molten-metal forging aims to plug into the semiconductor supply chain just as AI-driven computing intensifies demand for heat dissipation and lightweight components.
