AI2 Robotics raises $700M, becomes Greater Bay Area's first embodied AI unicorn valued over $2.8B

What's the deal? AI2 Robotics has raised nearly 5,000,000,000 CNY ($700 million) in a late-stage round, according to a June 29 report.

The financing pushes the embodied AI company's valuation past 20,000,000,000 CNY, making it the first firm in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to cross that threshold.

The round drew a broad mix of backers, from state-linked funds to industry giants. Investors included the National SME Development FundDealroom has a profile for this one. Strategic corporate investors also joined, including Sino BiopharmaceuticalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Pharmaron, Moutai GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Why now? AI2 Robotics plans to use the funds to speed up its "robot brain" upgrades and scale mass production.

It has already built what it calls China's first semi-automated production line for productivity robots delivering at scale, with annual capacity topping 2,000 units.

In the second half of 2026, it will start building China's first line capable of producing tens of thousands of humanoid robots.

What could go wrong? Scaling from thousands to tens of thousands of units is a steep leap, and demand for humanoid robots at that volume remains unproven.

The sky-high valuation also raises the bar for delivering commercial results.

The signal: The mix of state-linked vehicles like the National SME Development Fund, corporate strategics, and Tesla-linked suppliers signals that China is treating embodied AI as a national priority rather than a purely venture-led bet. For a late-stage company like AI2 Robotics, that breadth of backing de-risks the costly jump to mass production, but it also ties its trajectory to whether humanoid robots can deliver at industrial scale.
