Mallia raises €3M to scale hormone-free hair serums across Europe
What's the deal? German biopharma startup Mallia Innovations has closed a €3 million early-stage round to expand sales of its 8T3 Essentials line across Europe.
The Erlangen-based company will channel the proceeds into subsidiary Mallia Aesthetics, which sells two hormone-free products: a hair serum and a lash and brow serum.
Why now? Mallia launched the products in Germany in H1 2026 and reports positive early sales.
The funding lets it build up inventory, expand marketing through its own online channels and commercial partners, and prepare launches outside the EU — with the US as its main target.
Both serums rely on MAL-838, a proprietary derivative of the human soluble CD83 protein first identified by co-founder Prof. Steinkasserer in 2001.
What could go wrong? Scaling into new markets means new regulatory hurdles, especially in the US, where cosmetics and drug rules are strict.
The company must also convert early German traction into demand elsewhere, all while competing in a crowded hair-growth market.
The signal: Mallia's raise reflects growing investor appetite for science-led beauty, with early-stage startups betting that clinically grounded, hormone-free formulas can win over consumers wary of side effects. Its dual play — cosmetic products funding a longer-term biopharma pipeline for hair loss and wound healing — captures the increasingly blurred line between beauty and medicine.
