MPC Container Ships raises $107M to buy four vessels
What's the deal? MPC Container ShipsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, has completed a private placement, raising about $107 million through new shares.
It will use the funds to buy four 7,000 TEU vessels, growing its fleet and cementing its lead in intra-regional container trades.
Why now? The market for smaller container ships is favourable, with thin new-vessel orderbooks and ageing fleets driving demand.
MPCC enters from a position of strength. It reported 2023 revenues of $711 million and earnings per share of $0.73, backed by existing charter agreements and low leverage.
What could go wrong? The company pays out 75% of net profit as dividends, leaving less cushion if shipping rates soften.
It declared a slim ex-dividend of $0.04 for Q1 2026, a sign margins can tighten quickly.
The signal: MPC Container Ships built its business on small feeder vessels between 1,000 and 3,000 TEU, so the move into 7,000 TEU ships marks a deliberate step up in scale for the late-stage owner. With investment fund and major shareholder MPC CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → raising its stake to 14% in March 2024, the bet is that thin orderbooks and ageing fleets will keep intra-regional shipping economics tight in its favour.
