VASO raises over £5M in seed round to scale recycled-glass modular homes

VASO makes structural building panels from recycled waste glass to deliver affordable, low-carbon modular homes.

Why now? The company has acquired a 60,000ft² production facility in Dumfries, and the funds will help optimise its manufacturing there.

It plans to secure routes to market over the next two years and create up to 70 regional jobs.

VASO has also appointed Graham McDonald as chairman and Douglas Morrison as a strategic advisor, and structured its supply chain through ECO GROUP as a delivery partner.

What could go wrong? The company's automated construction methods aim to cut residential building timelines from 33 weeks to 10 — an ambitious target that depends on scaling unproven processes.

Mixing equity, grant, and debt funding also adds complexity, with the £2m loan facility requiring repayment regardless of how the business performs.

The signal: VASO's blend of equity, grant, and debt funding shows how early-stage climate tech ventures are stitching together public and private capital to bridge the gap between lab and factory. With ECO GROUP backing the round as both a corporate investor and a delivery partner, the company is tying its supply chain to its cap table — a vertically integrated bet on scaling recycled-glass construction.
