L&F backs CIS Chemical to build a battery recycling supply chain

What's the deal? South Korean battery materials maker L&FDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has signed a strategic investment in recycling specialist CIS ChemicalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, deepening a partnership the two firms launched earlier this year.

The deal was signed on June 29 at L&F's headquarters in Daegu, with chief executive officers Heo Je-hong of L&F and Lee Sung-oh of CIS Chemical present.

L&F plans to secure LFP (lithium iron phosphate) and NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) post-processing volumes through the partnership, then meet customer recycling demand jointly.

Why now? The investment follows a May memorandum of understanding between the two firms on LFP and NCM recycling. This deal formalises and strengthens that earlier agreement.

CIS Chemical brings recycling technology that recovers up to 98% of lithium carbonate.

The two will pursue joint research on high-purity mixed hydroxide (Clean-MHP) to cut cathode costs, plus LFP recycling and remanufacturing. L&F will also tie in subsidiaries JHCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and L&F PlusDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to handle spent cathodes, black mass, and LFP scrap.

The signal: By taking a strategic stake in an early-stage specialist like CIS Chemical, L&F is moving upstream into recycled-feedstock supply at a moment when battery makers are increasingly bringing recovery in-house rather than relying on third-party suppliers. With CIS Chemical's 98% lithium carbonate recovery rate and L&F's subsidiary network handling black mass and LFP scrap, the tie-up positions L&F to close the loop on both LFP and NCM chemistries from collection through to refined cathode inputs.
