Nordic Forestry Automation raises 48M SEK for physical AI in forestry machinery
What's the deal? Lund-based Nordic Forestry AutomationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (NFA) has raised 48 million SEK (roughly $4.9 million) in an early-stage round to advance its physical AI for forestry machinery.
Navigare VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Almi Invest GreenTech led the round, with LRF VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → joining as a new minority owner. Existing backers SveaskogDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Södra SkogsägarnaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Almi Invest Syd all followed on.
NFA says the raise is one of the largest ever for a forestry technology startup in Sweden.
Why now? NFA's first product, an operator support system for thinning, is already running in commercial operations across seven markets on three continents.
The company spent 2025 and 2026 developing next-generation features, including tree species identification, stem shape measurement, and semi-automation. Scaling that work needs capital and training data from real production environments.
"Succeeding in physical AI requires a highly competent team, vast amounts of training data from real production environments, and long-term financing," said Lars SvenssonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, chief executive officer and co-founder of NFA.
What could go wrong? Physical AI is hard. Translating real-time tree measurement into reliable semi-automation across varied terrain and species is a steep technical challenge.
NFA also depends on continued backing from forestry incumbents such as SveaskogDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Södra SkogsägarnaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to access data and customers. A shift in those relationships could slow its momentum.
The signal: NFA's cap table reads like a who's who of Swedish forestry, pairing dedicated funds such as Navigare VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and LRF VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → with corporate backers SveaskogDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Södra SkogsägarnaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → — the kind of strategic alignment that gives an early-stage startup both capital and a direct line to real-world production data. With those incumbents doubling down, this round signals that Sweden's forestry sector is starting to treat physical AI as a serious commercial bet rather than a research curiosity.
