Strategic Energy raises A$1.5M to drill for copper and gold in Queensland
What's the deal? Strategic Energy ResourcesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (ASX:SER) has raised A$1.5 million to fund a diamond drill program at its wholly owned Diamantina Copper-Gold Project in Queensland.
The raise comprises A$1.25 million in firm placement commitments and a A$250,000 share purchase plan, fully underwritten by Leeuwin Wealth. Shares were priced at A$0.12 each, a 17.2% discount to the last traded price.
Major shareholder Juel Enterprises Pty Ltd backed the placement, and board members committed A$100,000, subject to shareholder approval.
Why now? Drilling at Diamantina is set to begin straight after a July campaign at the Canobie Copper Project, a joint venture with Fortescue Metals GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.
The funds also cover deferred consideration for acquiring Diamantina from Anglo American Exploration (Australia), plus working capital.
Managing director Dr David DeTata said he is excited to chase a large-scale IOCG deposit, building on Anglo American's earlier work at the site.
What could go wrong? The raise was struck at a steep discount — 18.9% below the 10-day volume-weighted average price — diluting existing holders.
Exploration drilling is high-risk by nature. There is no guarantee Diamantina holds a commercial deposit, and A$1.5 million is a modest war chest for an under-cover explorer.
The signal: Strategic Energy is an early-stage explorer leaning on a Fortescue Metals Group joint venture at Canobie and ground vacated by Anglo American to chase a large-scale IOCG copper-gold find. With copper increasingly central to the energy transition, the company is betting that established miners' historical groundwork can de-risk discovery on a modest A$1.5 million budget.
