Myota raises $3M in a Series A that's lasted five years
What's the deal? Myota, a Blue Bell, Pennsylvania cyberstorage startup, closed $3 million in February 2026, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
It's the fifth documented slice of what has become a marathon Series A. Eight backers joined this tranche, though their names remain undisclosed.
All told, Myota has pulled in more than $12 million under the same round designation since 2021.
Why now? Ransomware remains a persistent corporate nightmare. Sophos pegged average recovery costs at $1.53 million per incident in a 2025 report.
Myota's product centres on what it calls "Shard & Spread" technology. The software encrypts data, chops it into fragments, and scatters those pieces across separate storage locations.
The company holds two US patents on the method, granted in 2022 and 2024. It claims customers can cut storage costs by 50% or more versus traditional backup setups.
What could go wrong? Myota's marketing claims the architecture renders encrypted data "100% useless to unauthorized access" and lets customers "instantly rewind to one second before an attack."
It also says it has never suffered a breach, data exfiltration, or ransomware loss. Those claims remain unverified by independent third-party audits.
The drawn-out fundraising is unconventional, too. Most startups close a Series A in one go, or add a small extension a year later.
Myota's piecemeal approach — staggered closes tied to incremental milestones — could signal disciplined capital efficiency or a harder fundraising environment. The filings don't say.
