EIB lends Qbuzz €70M to roll out 275 electric buses

The money will fund 275 battery-electric buses and new charging infrastructure across the province of Zuid-Holland.
Société Générale is matching the EIB with an equivalent financing package, doubling the firepower behind the rollout.
Why now? The buses will run under the Zuid-Holland Noord concession, serving Leiden, Alphen aan den Rijn, and Gouda, where they replace diesel vehicles.
Qbuzz has chased fleet electrification for years, and the loan lets it build one of the largest battery-electric bus fleets in the Netherlands.
The financing also covers high-capacity grid connections at depots — a prerequisite for charging at scale.

For Qbuzz, a late-stage operator already moving over 112 million passengers a year, the matched €140 million package underwrites one of the Netherlands' largest battery-electric fleets while doubling as a play for European energy independence.
