The pitch: medical staff tap an order into the Maple app, and a drone flies medication or lab samples — up to 10kg — straight to a hospital window adapter, skipping traffic and corridors.
Why now? The company aims to land its first paying customer before the end of 2026. The funding covers final engineering, charging infrastructure, and hiring.
More than 10 hospitals and labs across Bavaria have committed, including LMU Kliniken, Klinikum Rechts der Isar, and Klinikum Ingolstadt. Pilots in Munich and Ingolstadt are testing drones that hit 90km/h.
What could go wrong? European drone rules are strict, written for worst-case scenarios. Flying autonomously over apartments and business districts requires certifications that have stalled rivals.
Maple cleared one hurdle: a technical audit by Germany's Luftfahrtbundesamt for beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations under EASA's SORA framework. That lets it fly drones it can't see — essential to the business model.
Whether early hospital enthusiasm survives real-world operations remains an open question.
The signal: Backing from Bayern Kapital, ES Kapital, and a roster of angels gives this early-stage startup the institutional and regional muscle — including the Bavarian government and the European Space Agency — to navigate the certification thicket that has grounded rivals. With more than 10 Bavarian hospitals and labs already committed, Maple is betting that solving urban medical logistics by air is finally within reach.
