Noahlogy raises ¥150M to bring AI to Japan's shipbuilding crisis

What's the deal? Tokyo-based NoahlogyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised ¥150 million (about $927,030) in a seed round to build an AI agent platform for the maritime and shipbuilding industry.

ANRIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with Boost CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → following. Founded in November 2024, the startup turns veteran shipbuilders' know-how into AI agents and offers AI/DX consulting to maritime firms.

Why now? Japan is a global maritime power, but its industry faces a structural crisis.

Skilled designers from the postwar boom are retiring en masse, with too few young workers to inherit their knowledge. At the same time, demand is climbing for complex vessels: methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen-fuelled ships, offshore wind support vessels, and autonomous craft.

Chronic labour shortages and shorter working hours leave the industry unable to meet demand it already has.

What could go wrong? Capturing veterans' tacit knowledge — passed down by feel and experience rather than blueprints — is notoriously hard.

Noahlogy aims to cut design lead times by up to 90%, a steep target it will test with domestic shipyards and shipping firms. Founder Yusuke Fukuju also admits he comes from outside the industry, so hiring rare talent that blends maritime expertise with AI skills is a key risk.

The signal: Lead investor ANRI is betting on a founder it has known since his student days, having first met Fukuju through its STARTLINE student entrepreneurship programme — a sign the fund sees Noahlogy as a candidate to become one of Japan's defining vertical AI startups. With the company still at early stage and only founded in November 2024, the seed round is an early wager that domain-specific AI can preserve, rather than replace, the tacit expertise of a retiring generation.
