Ensol Biosciences raises $3.2M to push into cancer, brain disease

The round was led by Smart & Growth, a firm controlled by Ensol's largest shareholder, Hyung In-woo. It issued 487,329 new shares at 10,260 KRW each.
The cash will fund clinical trials for an Alzheimer's treatment, M1K, and a triple-negative breast cancer drug, C1K. New shares list on July 10, locked up for one year.
Why now? Ensol's core pipelines are nearing commercialisation, freeing it to chase next-generation candidates beyond degenerative disease.
Its knee osteoarthritis drug, E1K, began first-patient dosing in domestic phase 3 trials in June 2026. A 100 billion KRW domestic licensing deal with Leaders Cosmetics underscored its value; global rights could top 1 trillion KRW.
Meanwhile, P2K, a degenerative disc treatment licensed to US firm Spine Biopharma, is preparing to resume US phase 3 trials in late 2026. The global degenerative disc market is projected to hit $50 billion by 2030.
What could go wrong? Ensol failed a technology evaluation in 2025, with reviewers wary of its new treatment modalities.
It plans to reapply in Q3 2026 for a Kosdaq listing. Clinical-stage drugs remain risky, and trials for Alzheimer's and cancer are early and far from approval.
