Perovskia Solar wins €2.25M EIC Accelerator Grant

What's the deal? Swiss cleantech startup Perovskia Solar has won a €2.25 million EIC Accelerator Grant from the European Innovation Council, plus a potential co-investment from the EIC Fund.

The EmpaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → spin-off makes digitally printed perovskite solar cells that power IoT devices and smart electronics without disposable batteries.

Perovskia already supplies customers in smart home systems, electronic shelf labels, asset tracking, medical wearables, and consumer electronics.

Why now? The grant follows a stretch of commercial growth that took Perovskia from lab development to volume production.

It has since signed contracts with device makers across Europe, North America, and Asia, and is now preparing to scale manufacturing and expand internationally.

The funding will sharpen energy conversion efficiency, manufacturing capacity, product durability, and intellectual property.

What could go wrong? Perovskite technology is promising but young, with durability and large-scale manufacturing among its toughest challenges.

Perovskia must prove it can scale production while holding performance and reliability — and the grant only goes so far without the follow-on EIC Fund co-investment.

The signal: The European Innovation Council, a government and non-profit backer behind one of Europe's most competitive funding programs, rarely commits without rigorous vetting — and its potential follow-on through the EIC Fund signals confidence in indoor photovoltaics as a market rather than a lab curiosity. For Perovskia, the grant marks the transition from Empa spin-off to a scaleup chasing battery-free power for the swelling universe of connected devices.
