It is the largest financing package the EBRD has ever provided to a bank in the country.

The money comes as three senior loans, payable in US dollars or Mongolian togrog. An $80 million green loan will help micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) access clean technology.

A $50 million loan backs the EBRD's Women in Business programme, while $40 million supports its Youth in Business programme, targeting MSMEs led by people under 35.

Why now? The deal builds on a long partnership. The EBRD has invested over $3 billion in Mongolia's economy across 166 projects, with roughly 90% going to private-sector firms.

The package also comes with technical assistance from the EBRD and the Women Entrepreneurs Finance InitiativeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

The signal: As a late-stage lender, Khan Bank gives the EBRD a proven channel to reach Mongolia's underserved MSMEs at scale — and the record-breaking size of this package signals deepening confidence after more than $3 billion deployed across 166 projects in the country. By routing capital through an established private bank rather than direct lending, the development finance institution can extend its green, gender, and youth priorities far further than it could alone.
