pimt raises ¥50M seed for its mobile unmanned retail robot

What's the deal? Tokyo-based pimt has raised 50,000,000 JPY (about $309,404) in a seed round for its mobile, unmanned retail robot, PIMT-0.

With this round, pimt's combined debt and equity funding reached 100,000,000 JPY just five months after launch. The debt portion came from the Japan Finance Corporation.

Why now? PIMT-0 brings the storefront to the customer, rolling into spaces where vending machines and shops are hard to install.

The robot has run at Narita International Airport since April 2026, targeting inbound tourist demand. A single unit, under one square metre, sold more than 500 plush toys per week.

pimt also built its own sales, promotion, and management app, and hired senior-age workers to run operations.

What could go wrong? The new capital funds expansion to other airports, malls, and leisure venues. Proving the Narita model scales beyond one high-traffic, tourist-heavy location is the real test.

The company also plans to build AI-driven operations software, including physical AI — an ambitious bet for an early-stage startup.

The signal: Retail faces labour shortages, rising costs, and unused space, yet the shopping experience has barely changed.

pimt's pitch flips the model: instead of customers finding the store, the store finds them. If it works, mobile robots could become new infrastructure for unmanned retail.
