Versework raises $2.7M from Altos Ventures to scale its Roblox UGC game studio

What's the deal? VerseworkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Asia's largest Roblox user-generated content (UGC) game developer and accelerator, has raised $2.7 million (about 4.1 billion KRW) from Altos Ventures.

Existing shareholder Smart Study VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → joined with an additional investment of roughly 1 billion KRW.

The Korean startup builds its own intellectual property (IP) games on Roblox while running an accelerator that finds and trains new developers. It has coined a new profession in Korea: the UGC game creator.

Why now? Roblox is booming. Daily active users climbed 35% year-on-year to 132 million, playtime hit 31 billion hours, and revenue rose 39% to $1.4 billion.

Altos Ventures, an early Roblox backer, is now betting on a player to represent Asia in that ecosystem.

The timing also follows a 42% rise in the Roblox DevEx exchange rate for US users aged 18 and over, effective 8 June 2026, which should accelerate Versework's revenue from the second half of 2026.

Versework's flagship game, "Sols RNG," has surpassed 2 billion cumulative plays and ranks among Roblox's Global Top 20 — the highest global traffic of any Roblox game built by a Korean studio.

The company was also selected for "Roblox Incubator 2026," a cohort run directly by Roblox headquarters, with its "Cookie Run TCG" project. Asian studios rarely make the cut.

What could go wrong? Versework's momentum leans heavily on a single hit. Expanding beyond "Sols RNG" with new titles, including the "Cookie Run TCG" game and a collaboration with creator Gyehyangts (27 million subscribers), remains unproven.

Heavy reliance on one platform also carries risk: any shift in Roblox's policies or payout rates could reshape the economics overnight.

The signal: Versework posted both revenue and operating profit of about 10 billion KRW in 2025, a rare pairing of growth and profitability for a young studio.

With backing from Altos Ventures and Roblox headquarters, Korean developers are positioning themselves as serious contenders in a global UGC market still in its early innings.
