Kubota deepens UV Boosting bet with fresh Series A cheque

What's the deal? KubotaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has made an additional Series A investment in UV Boosting, a French startup that builds ultraviolet irradiation equipment for crops.

The deal runs through Kubota's European holding company, Kubota Holdings Europe B.V., and deepens a partnership that began in 2024.

UV Boosting's UV flash technology uses short-wavelength light to stimulate plant leaves, triggering salicylic acid and other hormones that boost natural resistance to disease.

Why now? Europe is pushing hard for technologies that cut chemical pesticide use and support sustainable farming.

Kubota started full-scale sales of UV Boosting's products through its network this year, so the extra capital aims to accelerate that momentum.

Third-party field trials in vineyards confirmed a 40% drop in disease and a 13% rise in yield, strengthening the commercial case.

What could go wrong? The technology works best in vineyards and fruit cultivation, which could limit its appeal across broader crop categories.

Convincing growers to swap proven chemical pesticides for UV equipment may also prove slow, even with strong trial data.

The signal: By following its 2024 entry with a fresh cheque, Kubota — a corporate investor backing an early-stage company — is signalling conviction that UV Boosting can scale beyond pilot trials into a commercial pillar of pesticide-free crop protection across Europe.
