Founded in 2013 by brothers Niklas and Mattis Oppermann, the firm sells carry-on cases, briefcases, and backpacks through its website and premium retailers including BloomingdaleDealroom has a profile for this one. The backing will help it manage stock across multiple markets and grow its Aluminium collection, with new products due in late 2026.
Why now? Carl Friedrik is chasing international growth, with plans to expand its North American retail presence.
The deal follows £3.1 million raised through customer-led crowdfunding in early 2026 and the opening of London stores on Regent Street and in Covent Garden over 2024 and 2025.
"Having Treyd and HSBC behind us means we can move with confidence — whether that's committing to a larger inventory order or jumping on an opportunity we'd otherwise have to pass up," Mattis said.
What could go wrong? For a scaleup with around 40 staff, demand isn't the threat — supply is.
"The big risk isn't a lack of demand but not being able to quickly mobilise the stock to serve customers," said Peter Beckman, co-founder and chief executive of Treyd.
The signal: Treyd's involvement points to a wider shift in how early-stage consumer brands fund growth — the Swedish provider, which launched in the UK in 2022, specialises in bridging the cash-flow gap between paying suppliers and selling stock. For an early-stage company like Carl Friedrik, pairing that with a global bank such as HSBC offers the working capital to scale inventory across borders without touching the cap table.
