What's the deal? Harbourfront Wealth Group, a Vancouver-based independent wealth management firm, has signed a deal to receive a strategic investment from Boston private equity firm Berkshire PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.
The transaction values Harbourfront at C$1.775 billion and is expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Existing partner Audax Private EquityDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → will keep a significant interest in the firm. Berkshire is leading the round.
The deal hands a material return to shareholders, including investment advisors across Harbourfront's 60-plus Canadian branches.
Why now? Since Audax first invested in 2022, Harbourfront has grown its assets under administration more than fivefold to over C$22 billion.
That growth came through advisor recruitment, technology investment, and five acquisitions since 2023 that deepened its footprint. The firm now employs 600 people serving clients at more than 60 locations.
"Welcoming Berkshire Partners while continuing our partnership with Audax provides validation that Harbourfront has built one of the strongest independent wealth platforms in Canada," said founder and executive chair Danny Popescu.
The deal lets advisors take partial liquidity while keeping rollover equity in the business.
The signal: Harbourfront's fivefold jump in assets under administration to over C$22 billion since Audax first invested in 2022 underscores why independent wealth platforms have become a magnet for private equity. With Audax holding on as Berkshire comes in, the deal points to a consolidation playbook that backers expect to run for another cycle.
