The cash will advance Osanni's pipeline and scale its discovery process, with programs spanning ophthalmology and cardiology.
Why now? Osanni is betting on capital efficiency at a time when drug development costs keep climbing.
Its model pairs a centralised research engine with a network of affiliate companies. Once a program is de-risked, it graduates into its own focused entity to scale.
"We are accelerating the process of medicine discovery by leveraging biodesign-inspired innovation, modern technology and a focus on capital efficiency," said founder and chief executive officer Michael Ackermann.
What could go wrong? Osanni remains a development-stage company, meaning its programs have yet to reach the market.
Drug discovery is slow, expensive, and prone to failure. The promise of a "repeatable" model across multiple therapeutic areas is unproven at scale.
The signal: Investors are warming to platform companies that promise to make drug discovery faster and cheaper, rather than chasing single assets.
Patient Square's backing signals confidence in this hybrid structure. "Osanni's approach pairs deep scientific insight with capital efficiency, creating a platform for differentiated, repeatable success," said founding partner Neel Varshney.
