Wheere raises €8.5M seed extension to validate geolocation from space

What's the deal? French deeptech startup Wheere has raised €8.5 million in a seed extension to validate its geolocation technology from space and ramp up commercial sales.

Wheere's patented system uses low-frequency VHF radio signals to locate people and objects with metric precision, indoors and out. It can pierce up to 50m of concrete using just four antennas per square kilometre.

Why now? The bridge funds an 18-month roadmap ahead of a Series A, with three milestones by 2028.

An orbital launch is planned for the first half of 2027 — the world's first payload broadcasting Wheere signals from space. The startup is targeting €1 million in revenue in 2026, with deployments across France, Germany, and Canada.

A pilot constellation of five satellites is due in July 2028, alongside a programme to develop a miniaturised chip for mass integration.

What could go wrong? Wheere is betting on unproven space hardware. Validating signals in orbit and scaling a satellite constellation are costly, complex steps that have tripped up many New Space ventures.

The commercial roadmap is equally ambitious, requiring the company to win industrial customers in three countries while hitting its first revenue target.
