Nexxtlab takes strategic investment to scale energy platform across Europe

What's the deal? Luxembourg-based energy technology firm Nexxtlab has taken a strategic investment from an experienced international energy player to accelerate its rollout across Europe.

The deal opens Nexxtlab's capital to an industrial group active in energy services for the energy transition. OaklinsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a mid-market mergers and acquisitions advisory firm, advised on the process.

Nexxtlab develops Smartmaster, an open, modular and white-label energy management platform. It serves energy suppliers, flexibility players and grid operators across residential, commercial and industrial markets.

Why now? The investment follows five years of building the product and company. Nexxtlab validated Smartmaster extensively in Belgium and the Netherlands before pushing wider.

The company announced the milestone at EM-Power Europe, part of The Smarter E Europe 2026 in Munich, running June 23-25, 2026.

New funds will strengthen marketing, customer success and distribution partnerships in key European markets.

What could go wrong? Smartmaster's edge rests on its open, neutral architecture. Bringing an industrial energy group onto the cap table could test that neutrality, a risk Nexxtlab acknowledges by stressing it will stay true to the open design.

Europe's energy market is also fragmented, with rules varying country by country. Scaling a single platform across these markets is no small task.

The signal: Backing from a strategic industrial energy player rather than a pure financial investor signals that incumbents see open, white-label energy management as a build-versus-buy decision worth getting ahead of, as Europe's energy transition turns flexibility services into a competitive battleground. For an early-stage company like Nexxtlab, that kind of partner offers a faster route into fragmented national markets than capital alone could buy.
