Laxey secures €47 million equity raise for expansion
What's the deal? Icelandic land-based salmon farmer Laxey has raised €47 million in fresh equity and signed a term sheet for syndicated debt to fund its next phase of expansion in Vestmannaeyjar.
The offering was substantially oversubscribed. Laxey had targeted €40 million but lifted the raise on strong investor demand.
Most capital came from existing shareholders, though several new investors joined too. Total equity raised since inception now stands at roughly €200 million.
DNBDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Carnegie acted as sole global coordinator and joint bookrunner, with Arion Bank as joint bookrunner.
Why now? Laxey completed its first harvest in November 2025, less than three years after receiving its first eggs. It has harvested weekly since and expects to produce about 4,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon in 2026.
The proceeds will complete Grow-Out Section 3 and build the first phase of Smolt Station II, starting at five million smolts a year and designed to scale to 15 million.
Alongside the equity, Laxey signed a committed term sheet for new debt coordinated by DNB Carnegie. Lenders include DNB, RabobankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Arion Bank, and Eksfin, with closing expected in September.
The facilities will refinance existing debt and fund the next expansion stage.
What could go wrong? The projects are part of a six-phase plan targeting roughly 35,000 tonnes HOG of Atlantic salmon when fully built — an ambitious ramp-up that hinges on each stage landing on schedule.
In May, Laxey's post-smolt facility became operational just ten months after construction began. Grow-Out Section II is expected to receive its first smolts later this year.
The signal: With roughly €200 million in equity raised since inception and a syndicate of corporate lenders including DNB, Rabobank, and Arion Bank now backing its debt, late-stage Laxey is assembling the kind of blended capital base that land-based salmon ventures need to clear the costly, multi-phase build-out toward 35,000 tonnes.
