VARM closes €17.5M Series A to scale industrialised home insulation
What's the deal? Berlin climate-tech Varm has closed a €17.5 million Series A to scale its insulation service for single-family homes across Europe.
The company insulates a house in one day at a fixed price, typically around €5,000, or under €4,000 after German BAFA subsidies. Residents then cut heating costs by up to 50%.

Why now? Germany must retrofit millions of high-emission buildings this decade, but the traditional trades market does not scale.
It is fragmented, opaque, and crippled by a skills shortage. Advisory portals pass on jobs without doing them; general contractors coordinate third parties without building their own capacity.
Founded in 2023, Varm has completed thousands of projects and runs seven sites in Germany.
What could go wrong? Varm's model depends on building its own workforce, training career-changers into certified insulation specialists in two-week programmes.
Operators can then run the system through a partner programme, getting software, processes, and lead access. Quality control across a decentralised network of partners is the key risk — and Varm leans on Jarvis, its AI platform, to automate measurement, material calculations, and field checks.
The signal: Backing from an early-stage climate-tech still at Series A, Varm's mix of impact funds — ABN AMRO's Sustainable Impact Fund, Aurum Impact, and climate specialist Pale Blue Dot — reflects investor conviction that building retrofits are an infrastructure problem rather than a craft one. With Germany facing millions of high-emission buildings to retrofit this decade, the bet is that a trained, software-coordinated workforce can scale where the fragmented traditional trades market cannot.
