Singapore-based Libeara helps financial institutions and asset managers issue compliant digital assets, offering tokenisation, compliance, and multichain infrastructure across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, and Solana.

It has supported over $1 billion in tokenised assets, including Wellington Management's Ultra fund, which holds a top-tier AA+/S1+ rating.

Why now? Korean financial firms are racing to build overseas experience ahead of new security token (STO) legislation taking effect in February 2026.

Kyobo Life set up a dedicated digital asset unit in H1 2026, exploring cross-border payments, stablecoins, and tokenisation across its insurance, securities, and asset management arms.

For Kaia Investment Partners, the deal supports its push into on-chain finance and real-world asset (RWA) products. It plans to expand its RWA fund portfolio from three asset classes to more than 10.

What could go wrong? The investment is more a strategic bet than a financial one, leaving returns uncertain.

Korea's digital asset framework remains delayed, and much depends on whether February's rules deliver clear regulatory ground.

Building global institutional distribution across multiple jurisdictions also carries execution risk.

The signal: The round shows how corporate balance sheets — not just crypto natives — are now underwriting tokenisation infrastructure, with Kyobo Life Insurance backing an early-stage company alongside trading firm GSR. For Standard Chartered, whose own research projects a $30 trillion tokenised market by 2034, Libeara is a way to seed the rails before that demand arrives.
