Acodyne raises €2.5M pre-seed for jet-speed cargo drones

The round was jointly led by Swedish defence VC Gungnir Capital and Danish PSVDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Hafnium, with participation from EIFO, SAP9 Group, and GreenUP IV Invest.
Its funded prototype, the E100, carries 100kg at 450 km/h — roughly double a typical helicopter's speed. Future variants topping 500kg payloads are expected within two years.
Why now? The global cargo drone market is worth about $2.1 billion today and is projected to hit $103.7 billion by 2035.
Militaries and offshore operators want alternatives to helicopters, which cost hundreds of thousands of euros per day to fly near rigs and conflict zones.
First flight tests are planned before the end of 2026.
Acodyne's bet is technological. The E100 uses ducted-fan motors — the same tech found in commercial jet engines, but smaller and electric — instead of the propellers most rivals scale up.
"We're betting that's still the winning technology, instead of just scaling up propellers," says co-founder and chief commercial officer Jasmina Pless.
What could go wrong? The startup is early. Founded in late 2023, it has a team of 10 and has yet to complete a single flight test.
Its speed claims also come with caveats — the helicopter comparison depends on the model. Range is 500km, extending to 1,000km in a hybrid setup.
Scaling to heavier payloads and winning certification in regulated aerospace and defence markets remains unproven.
The signal: As an early-stage deep tech startup, Acodyne is wagering that ducted-fan propulsion — rather than scaled-up propellers — can carve out a niche in a cargo drone market projected to grow from roughly $2.1 billion today to $103.7 billion by 2035. With backing from Denmark's state fund EIFO and a deep tech syndicate tied to DTU Science Park, the round reflects how European public and dual-use capital is increasingly flowing into early-stage aerospace hardware.
