Solid New Material closes Series A+ for high-energy-density battery materials

What's the deal? Solid New Material, a Chinese developer of high-energy-density battery materials, has closed a Series A+ round worth several hundred million yuan.

Backers include China Securities, Shenzhen Capital, and Yangtze River Capital. Existing investor China Securities added more, while Shenzhen Capital and Yangtze River Capital came in as new shareholders.

Why now? Solid New Material builds the core ingredients for advanced batteries: silicon-carbon anodes, solid-state electrolytes, and lithium-metal anodes.

These materials sit at the heart of the race to pack more energy into smaller batteries, a priority for electric vehicles and consumer electronics alike.

What could go wrong? Solid-state and silicon-carbon technologies remain costly and hard to scale. Turning lab breakthroughs into mass production has tripped up many battery startups.

The signal: Now at breakout stage, Solid New Material has drawn three investment funds — including a follow-on from existing backer China Securities — underscoring how state-linked capital is consolidating around the materials layer of China's battery supply chain rather than the cell makers alone.
