CHD wins $50,000 Venture Kick grant to advance remote monitoring for high-risk pregnancies

What's the deal? Swiss startup CHD has won a $50,000 grant from Venture Kick to advance MONI2, its remote monitoring system for high-risk pregnancies.

MONI2 combines a washable smart-textile fetal belt, predictive algorithms, and a digital platform. Together, they let clinicians track maternal and fetal health remotely.

The belt collects maternal and fetal ECG data, uterine contractions, and fetal movements, sending them to doctors while patients stay home.

Why now? The grant is Stage 2 funding from Venture Kick, arriving as CHD prepares to close the first tranche of its seed round.

CHD will use the money to develop and test manufacturing-ready prototypes, validate its algorithms, and formalise partnerships. It aims to have functional prototypes by year-end.

The funding bridges the gap between pre-seed and seed stage, the company said.

What could go wrong? CHD has only validated an early proof of concept so far. It still needs to prove its prototypes work at scale and win clinical trust.

Predictive algorithms guiding pregnancy decisions also face a high bar for regulatory approval and reliability.

Backing from Venture Kick, which has issued more than 1,200 such grants, gives the early-stage startup non-dilutive runway as it works to close the first tranche of its seed round.
