Specx raises KRW 3bn (~$2.2M) pre-Series A for hyperspectral space imaging
What's the deal? Specx, a South Korean space and aerospace deep-tech startup, has raised KRW 3 billion (about $2.2 million) in follow-on pre-Series A funding.
The round was led by Triangle Partners, with participation from EVenture Partners and JX Partners.
Specx builds hyperspectral imaging technology that analyses wavelength data from light. Its end-to-end platform covers satellite observation data acquisition, processing, and analysis.
Why now? The startup announced the funding on June 19. It follows a clear ladder of regional support.
Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation first found Specx through its 2024 Pre-Startup Package program. The center and MYSCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → then made Specx the first investment of their jointly managed Jeju Early-Stage Startup Fund.
Specx later won a spot in the Deep Tech TIPS program, securing KRW 1.5 billion (about $1.1 million) in R&D funding to commercialise the technology.
The signal: Specx is a test case for whether regional ecosystems can grow global deep-tech players.
"Specx exemplifies the Jeju model for deep-tech startup growth — from discovery through our pre-startup package to our first investment, Deep Tech TIPS selection, and now private follow-on funding," said Lee Byung-sun, chief executive officer of Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation.
The center says it will keep backing promising startups to help them scale beyond the region into global markets.
