Franklin raises $1.8M seed to bring AI agents to e-commerce finance

What's the deal? Danish fintech startup FranklinDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $1.8 million in a seed round led by True CollectiveDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, alongside several angel investors.

The company has built a payment card for e-commerce businesses, designed to handle large advertising spends so campaigns don't stall — even mid-weekend.

For every euro spent on ads, software, and operations, businesses get 0.5% back with no cap. Franklin's AI also retrieves and matches receipts from Meta, Google, and TikTok, automating bookkeeping.

Why now? More than 250 companies, mostly e-commerce stores, already use the platform, and Franklin has gained early traction in the Dutch market.

The funding lets it shift from tools that display numbers to AI agents that do the work. "We're moving away from financial tools that simply display numbers toward AI agents that actually do the work for you," said chief executive officer and founder Nikolaj Bomann Mertz.

Franklin will use the money to strengthen its AI and grow its team as it expands to more retailers and markets.

What could go wrong? Handing financial management to autonomous AI agents raises questions of accuracy and accountability. Franklin's vision — agents handling all the work "automatically and responsibly" — depends on earning customer trust at scale.

The signal: Franklin's bet reflects a broader push to embed autonomous AI agents into business workflows, moving beyond dashboards toward software that acts on a company's behalf. With True Collective backing an early-stage player it sees as a potential European market leader, the round signals investor appetite for agentic fintech in the fast-growing e-commerce sector.
