Infinity Metals raises A$2.25M, options historic Arizona copper mine

What's the deal? Infinity MetalsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Limited, an Australian mineral exploration company, has secured an exclusive 24-month option to acquire 100% of the historic Swansea copper mine in Arizona. Alongside the deal, it completed an A$2.25M private placement, drawing demand from existing shareholders and new institutional and sophisticated investors.

The Swansea mine produced roughly 29 million pounds of copper at a head grade of 2.43% between 1908 and 1937. Historical drilling has revealed significant intercepts, including 18.3 metres at 3.8% copper from 125 metres depth. A 1975 estimate indicated 5,420,000 tonnes at 0.81% copper, though further work is needed to classify it under modern JORC standards.

The placement was priced at A$0.01 per share — a 23.1% discount to the last traded price — with one free unlisted option for every two new shares. Funds will go toward exploration on Infinity's existing Australian assets, Swansea acquisition costs, permitting, geophysical surveys, and planned drilling.

Why now? Copper was added to the US critical minerals list in 2025, boosting strategic interest in domestic supply. Arizona is already a tier-1 copper-producing jurisdiction, making the Swansea project a timely bet on rising demand for the metal as electrification and defence priorities intensify.

Executive chairman Adrian ByassDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → said the opportunity strengthens the company's balance sheet and will accelerate work across its portfolio.

What could go wrong? Infinity is an early-stage explorer, and the Swansea mine has been idle since 1937. The historical resource estimate predates modern reporting standards and may not hold up under JORC-compliant evaluation. Bringing a nearly century-old mine back toward production would require substantial capital well beyond this raise.

The steep discount on the placement and the attachment of free options also signal dilution risk for existing shareholders.

The signal: Infinity Metals' pivot to Arizona underscores a growing pattern of early-stage Australian explorers chasing US copper assets as policy tailwinds — particularly copper's 2025 addition to the US critical minerals list — reshape where junior miners see opportunity. The A$2.25 million raise is modest, but the strategic bet is on jurisdiction and timing rather than scale, banking on the premise that domestic US copper projects will attract outsized attention as electrification and defence supply-chain anxieties intensify.
