NaukNauk raises $20M to bring toys and fandoms to life with AI

What's the deal? NaukNauk, a Dover, Delaware-based social platform for the "kidult" community, has raised $20M in early-stage venture funding. The backers were not disclosed.

Led by Daniel Liu, NaukNauk uses AI to bring toys, collectibles, and fandoms to life. The app lets users transform a single photo into animated shorts, comics, and music videos starring their favourite toys. It has already attracted more than one million beta users.

The company plans to use the funds to expand operations and its reach.

Why now? The "kidult" market — adults who collect toys, build LegoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → sets, and engage deeply with fandoms — has become one of the fastest-growing segments in the toy industry. Combine that with generative AI tools that can turn static images into video and animation, and NaukNauk sits at the intersection of two powerful tailwinds.

What could go wrong? Building a social platform is notoriously difficult. User acquisition is expensive, retention is hard, and monetisation often lags growth. NaukNauk also operates in a space crowded with established social networks — TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit all host thriving fandom communities already.

The company's heavy reliance on licensed intellectual property — Star Wars, Marvel, Warhammer — could also create complications if rights holders take issue with AI-generated content featuring their characters.

The signal: NaukNauk reflects a broader bet that niche, interest-based social platforms can carve out space against the generalist giants. The fandom economy is massive and underserved by purpose-built tools. If AI-powered creation lowers the barrier to content production enough, platforms like NaukNauk could unlock a new wave of user-generated media — one toy at a time.
