AES Global secures ~£2M debt package from Santander UK
What's the deal? AES Global, a Cookstown-based intercom manufacturer, has secured a debt funding package of roughly £2M from Santander UKDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to fuel its global expansion. The package includes trade and foreign exchange facilities plus a term loan totalling more than £1.98M. AES has also appointed Santander as its full banking partner.
AES Global makes GSM, wireless, IP, and wired audio and video intercoms, selling B2B through dealers in more than 40 countries. It has a global turnover of around £10M, and its US business has been growing at approximately 28% per year.
"This funding package marks another important milestone for AES Global," said Kyle Loughran, managing director. "The additional funding gives us the flexibility to continue investing in our people, our products, and our infrastructure."
Why now? AES Global's US operation is its fastest-growing market, and the company needs working capital and trade finance tools to keep pace. Choosing Santander — which has been expanding its corporate banking footprint in Northern Ireland — gives AES access to FX and trade facilities suited to a manufacturer shipping across dozens of markets.
What could go wrong? Debt funding, unlike equity, must be repaid regardless of performance. A downturn in key export markets or currency swings could squeeze margins for a company that relies heavily on international trade. And while 28% annual US growth is impressive, sustaining that pace in a competitive hardware market is far from guaranteed.
The signal: The deal is a small but telling example of how regional UK manufacturers are turning to tailored debt packages — rather than venture capital — to scale internationally. For Santander, it underscores a push to deepen relationships with Northern Ireland's growing tech-manufacturing sector. For AES Global, it is a bet that the smart-building and security hardware market has room for a mid-sized player with global reach.
