What's the deal? The funding will support expansion of Aton's TrialSight™ and CareSight™ platforms into new medical specialties and markets beyond gastroenterology, along with investments in technology, operations, and hiring.
Aton embeds data collection infrastructure directly into existing specialty practices, enabling providers to participate in non-interventional research without disrupting their workflows. The company screens tens of thousands of patients monthly and has more than 5,000 actively enrolled across its studies.
Why now? Clinical research has long struggled with patient access and representation. Traditional trial sites often fail to reach patients who could benefit from — or contribute to — new treatments, largely because participation sits outside normal care delivery.
Aton's model tries to solve that by making research a seamless part of routine visits. "The future of clinical research depends on making participation more accessible to patients while minimising operational burden on providers," said Cameron Perkins, partner at Shore Search Partners.
What could go wrong? Expanding beyond gastroenterology means proving the platform works across specialties with different workflows, patient populations, and data requirements. Scaling embedded research infrastructure while maintaining data quality is no small feat — and convincing new provider networks to adopt the model will take time and trust.
The non-interventional research space is also growing more competitive, with larger players investing in real-world evidence generation.
The signal: Shore Capital Partners, the investment fund behind Shore Search Partners, brings a track record of backing healthcare services businesses and scaling them across fragmented markets — a playbook that fits Aton's ambition to expand its embedded research model specialty by specialty. Still classified as early stage on Dealroom, Aton's ability to screen tens of thousands of patients monthly suggests operational traction that could accelerate as pharma sponsors increasingly prioritise real-world evidence from diverse, community-based populations.
