Founded by entrepreneur Ajay Bulusu, YouLabs is building healthcare and biotech infrastructure focused on preventive health and longevity in India. It has assembled a team of physicians, scientists, engineers, and data specialists to develop products that monitor health over time rather than just treating disease.
Why now? The company plans to launch its first product — a physician-managed preventive health programme called 150 — later this year. It will initially grow through referrals.
YouLabs is also developing longevity-focused supplements and a health data platform tailored to South Asian populations. One early initiative is a proprietary Longevity Score that combines genomic, biological, and longitudinal health data to assess an individual's health trajectory.
"Healthcare is becoming increasingly data-driven, yet some of the world's largest populations remain dramatically underrepresented in modern health infrastructure," said Roy, partner at Crane Venture Partners.
What could go wrong? Preventive health is a notoriously hard sell in markets where consumers are accustomed to paying for care only when they're sick. Building a referral-driven business around longevity — a category still gaining mainstream acceptance — adds another layer of risk. YouLabs will also need to demonstrate that its data platform can generate meaningful insights from a population that is still underrepresented in global health datasets.
The signal: This deal reflects growing investor appetite for healthcare infrastructure tailored to underserved populations, particularly in South Asia. Crane choosing YouLabs as the debut bet for its Asia-Pacific fund suggests confidence that India's preventive health market is approaching an inflection point. The involvement of Dr. Reddy's — a major Indian pharmaceutical company — adds strategic weight beyond the modest cheque size.
