Lamda Development issues €350M bond, raising €1.4B since 2020
What's the deal? Greek real estate group Lamda DevelopmentDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has issued a €350M corporate bond — its fourth since 2020 — bringing total capital raised through bonds to roughly €1.4B. The bond began trading on Euronext Athens, with net proceeds of €339.7M.
The company is best known for The Ellinikon, Europe's largest urban regeneration project, built on the site of Athens' former international airport. It also operates shopping centres and marinas across Greece.
Why now? Lamda cited a positive market climate and strong investor appetite. CEO Odyseas Athanasiou pointed to record-level participation from private investors, signalling broad confidence in the company's portfolio.
Nikos Koskolelos, executive director of finance and issuer relations at Euronext Athens, said the €1.4B total "demonstrates concretely Lamda's confidence in Greece's domestic corporate bond market as a financing tool for major projects." He noted that each issuance has been oversubscribed.
What could go wrong? Lamda now carries substantial debt across four bond issues. Large-scale urban regeneration projects like The Ellinikon are notoriously complex, with long timelines and exposure to construction costs, regulatory shifts, and macroeconomic headwinds. Any slowdown in Greece's economy or property market could pressure the company's ability to service that debt.
The signal: Lamda Development's ability to raise roughly €1.4B across four oversubscribed bond issues since 2020 points to a maturing Greek corporate bond market — one increasingly capable of financing large-scale infrastructure plays domestically. For a mature real estate developer anchoring its strategy on a single mega-project like The Ellinikon, sustained investor appetite at this scale suggests that confidence in Greek corporate credit, and in Athens as a development hub, continues to deepen.
